Tell us about your power projects! On August 3, join the global power industry for a TweetUp about YOUR power projects: those that you are working on, those that are going to come online or those that you love.


We’re asking the power industry to tweet photos, articles, comments and questions about the power projects they are working on, have worked on, plan to work on or have admired from afar.

The Future of Bioenergy Is In This Book-less Library

The Bioenergy Feedstock Library contains no books. What it does contain is information about biomass — organic material such as corn stover, switchgrass, wood chips and wheat straw. Nearly 50,000 biomass database entries and more than 35,000 physical samples reside in a repository located at the Department of Energy’s Biomass Feedstock National User Facility.

Energy Bill Amendment Would Streamline Administration’s Approach to Biomass

On February 2, Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) offered an amendment  (S.A. 3140) to the Energy Policy Modernization Act (S. 2012) that would seek to harmonize the administration’s approach on biomass. If passed, the measure would provide significant clarity to states on the inclusion of biomass as they craft state compliance plans under the Clean Power Plan.  Biomass feedstocks, such as wood and agricultural wastes, could be used to produce electricity, co-fired with coal, or utilized in applications such as combined heat and power (CHP) or small-scale district heating applications.

The Usual Suspects in Renewable Jet Fuels

As renewables are moving from niche to mainstream, the industry is facing a paradigm shift in cost, quality, complexity, and scale ­— creating opportunities to develop new and different technologies and operating models. Achieving the next phase of the industry potential will require a further revolution, not only in the laboratory but also in strategy, technology, and operations. Some of these organizations preferred to generate transportation fuel from non-fossil resources with a pivot towards more tangible chemicals. With a further pivot now the direction is towards renewable jet fuels.
