The Dogs Check In

July 12, 2016 – Photos  and news from Shannon, our dog walker. Shannon: My son Beaumont came with me a couple days to walk the dogs & of course Charlie became “his” dog right away …lol By day two…he had both dogs converted to “his” dogs…lol

Colorado

June 24, 2016 – 11 a.m. found us coming into Colorado. We drove South to Denver, then turned left for Kansas.   A fun diner we found, Gunther Toody’s. It’s done as a 60’s period place, great staff, good food. The prices are modern, though. LOL Of course Larra made friends with the staff. Unfortunately, […]

OooooooooAK-lamona!

June 24, 2016 – Kansas is behind us, too, and we’re in Oklahoma. Oklahoma Rush Hour on the turnpike. There’s a song about this place – something about an Okee from Muskogee. It’s the middle of nowhere. LOL

Finally Wyoming

June 24th, 2016, and the evening of June 23 – After almost a full day of driving, we finally got out of Montana and made it to Wyoming. We spent the night in Casper. Our hotel overlooked the city. The next day we drove the length of the state, North to South. A faint rainbow.

Trekking Across Montana

June 22 & 23, 2016 – We crossed into the USA at Sweetgrass, Montana, a hundred miles or so south of Calvary. We knew we were back in the States when we saw the Paper Dollar Bar. LOL Small town, middle of nowhere, low on gas. Larra goes in for coffee, makes friends with the […]

Michelle’s Birthday

June 10, 2016 – Tonight we took Michelle and Jarrod out for supper because it’s Michelle’s Birthday. Me, I think Michelle should take her mother out on that day. Who should be thanking whom, eh? It says it’s a Greek Grill, but the name sounds Hawaiian to me.

Shannon the Dog Walker

June 11, 2016 – Today Shannon, the dog walker, came over to get the house key from Larra, and instructions. It was obvious that Charlie and Charlotte were glad to see her again. Shannon took care of the dogs during Larra’s trips to Hawaii, Arizona and Mexico last Winter. While Larra’s daughter is going to […]

Life’s a Beach

April 20, 2016 – Today I took Larra to Life’s a Beach, a pub in downtown Kihei.  The barmaid recommended the Mai Tai Special, which was about a liter of alcohol – it was a wine carafe full. Needless to say, Larra was feeling no pain by the time she finished it. She even made […]

Canada Place

Sept. 13, 2016 -Also known as Five Sails, for the tent-like sculptures that represent the maritime heritage of Vancouver. The building is four blocks long, and has a hotel, iMax-type theater, cruise ship port, food court, convention center and much mor…

Back at Larra’s, Surrey, BC

Sept. 11, 2016 – Back at Larra’s place in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. Of the 10 1/2 weeks we were on the road, we spent almost three of them on my 100+ acres in Georgia. Now we’re back at Larra’s, on her 1/10 of an acre lot. It’s quite a contrast. At least Larra lives […]

Lookout Tower

Sept. 13th, 2016 – Walking around Gastown, I kept seeing a great lookout platform towering above the city. So Larra and I walked over, I handed them a pile of colorful Canadian Monopoly money, and they gave us two tickets for the high-speed elevator to the top of the tallest building in Vancouver. It was […]

CPR Waterfront Train Station

Sept. 13, 2016 – If you’ve seen my post about the Art Deco train station in Omaha, you know I’m a fan of trains, rail and stations. So here’s where we got off the Skytrain in downtown Vancouver – the Neoclassical Canadian Pacific Railway station, built in 1914. Wow. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterfront_station_(Vancouver) We enjoyed the pub/restaurant, too. […]

Vancouver Ferry – the Sea Bus

Sept. 13th, 2016 – Boy, a day pass on Vancouver transit is quite a value. Not only did we travel from one end of the line to the other, and back again, but we also used it to take the Sea Bus across to North Vancouver. Two megayachts in floating drydocks. Container ship loading/unloading dock. […]

ICBC

Sept. 13, 2016 – In North Vancouver Larra took me to the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, where she worked for 25 years. This was the main building she worked in. ICBC used to lease this building, and Larra worked here, too. Ground floor, facing the sidewalk. Great views, she said. A shop where Larra […]

Lochiel School, 1924

Sept. 15, 2016 – We found this old schoolhouse at the Campbell Valley Regional Park. It even has an outhouse. I was particularly impressed with this big old pine tree towering over the school. When I commented on it Larra looked at me funny. “Is it old? I didn’t even notice.” Pacific Northwest girl that […]

Campbell Valley Regional Park

Sept. 15, 2016 – This was a fun day trip that Larra took me on. It’s a big park, with about 25 km. of hiking and horse riding trails. No, it’s not a puppy dog. Leave the coyotes alone! Keep your dog on a leash! Check out the moss on the roof.
